McKinney North track athletes shine at state competition and earn athletic scholarships

McKinney ISD celebrated remarkable achievements in athletics during the recent school board meeting, highlighting the outstanding performances of student athletes in track and field. The spotlight shone brightly on the McKinney North girls track and field team, which secured an impressive third place overall at the state meet. Coach Jessica Richards praised her athletes, including Cassidy Solomon and Kendall Pettis, both of whom earned state medals in the 4 by 100 and 4 by 200 relays, respectively.

The boys team, led by Coach Melvin Crosby, also made their mark, finishing fifth overall. Notable athletes included junior Julian Banales, who took home a bronze medal in the 4 by 200 relay, and senior Veil, a two-time state champion.

In addition to team accolades, the meeting recognized over 80 student athletes who have signed athletic scholarships to compete at the collegiate level. This achievement underscores the dedication and hard work of these young athletes, with many unable to attend due to other senior activities.

The board's recognition of these accomplishments not only celebrates individual talent but also emphasizes the strong support from families and coaches, fostering a culture of excellence in McKinney ISD athletics.
