The Mobile County Commission convened on May 12, 2025, to address a range of agenda items focused on community support, educational funding, and operational agreements. The meeting began with the approval of an alcohol application for Dolgen Corp, allowing the Dollar General store on Wolf Road South in Semmes to sell retail beer and table wine for off-premises consumption.
Following this, the Commission approved several sponsorship agreements aimed at supporting local educational initiatives. A $1,200 sponsorship was granted to the 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile for their 24th annual gala and scholarship awards, scheduled for May 29. Additionally, two separate agreements were approved to assist Citronelle High School and Mattie T. Blunt High School with travel expenses for the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference, totaling $4,048 each.

Furthermore, a $30,960 appropriation was approved for Chickasaw City Schools to support their summer academic enrichment program.
In a continued effort to support local education, the Commission approved a $15,000 appropriation for Manatee Blunt High School to cover travel expenses for the National History Day contest in June. An additional $25,000 was allocated to the Africa Town Heritage Preservation Foundation for general operating expenses.
The meeting included the adoption of a resolution authorizing a joint purchases agreement with several local municipalities for procurement through the county's annual bids. The Commission also approved a $1,500 sponsorship for the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Alabama's Youth of the Year dinner and a $1,000 sponsorship for the Miss Mobile Bay organization's scholarship fundraiser.
Operational matters were addressed, including the disposal of surplus items from the county garage and an amendment to an appropriation contract with the Afro Town Redevelopment Corporation to extend project deadlines. A letter of support for Mediacom's broadband grant application was authorized to enhance fiber broadband service in Saraland.
The Commission reviewed and approved an interim report on the opioid needs assessment, which will be funded through the county's opioid settlement funds. Other routine approvals included service agreements for pest control and software subscriptions, as well as a lease agreement for a copier.
The meeting concluded with a clerical amendment to a previous item, ensuring accuracy in the Commission's records. Overall, the session highlighted the Commission's commitment to supporting education, community initiatives, and operational efficiency within Mobile County.
