East Penn School Board honors retiring staff members with 72 years of combined service

The East Penn School District Board Meeting on May 12, 2025, highlighted significant staff retirements, marking the end of an era for several dedicated educators. Among those recognized was Mike Nitz, a school counselor at Lower Macungie Middle School, who is retiring after 26 years of service. Dr. Campbell, the board president, expressed gratitude for Nitz's contributions, recalling their early collaboration when he transitioned into administration.

Also retiring are Tracy O'Connor, a science teacher at Iyer Middle School with 27 years in public education, and Miriam Rodriguez, a remedial assistant at Lower Macungie Middle School, who has spent a decade supporting students. Deb Stark, another instructional assistant at Lower Macungie, will also retire, concluding a 26-year career in education, with nine years at East Penn. Collectively, these four educators represent 72 years of commitment to the district.

Board member Miss Klotz emphasized Nitz's remarkable impact on students, underscoring the community's appreciation for these educators as they move into retirement. The board unanimously approved the personnel changes, reflecting a shared respect for the retiring staff's dedication.

In addition to personnel matters, the board also approved various business operations, including district bills and contracts, with all motions passing unanimously. The meeting concluded with acknowledgments of generous donations from the LMS Sunshine Fund and the EPSD Education Foundation, which support student scholarships and community initiatives. The board's actions signal a commitment to both honoring past contributions and continuing to invest in the district's future.
