Romulus is poised for a significant transformation as Coral Hotels seeks a tax abatement to pave the way for a new dual-brand hotel development. During the recent city council meeting, Jeff Thompson, Vice President of Operations for Coral Hotels, highlighted the urgent need for change in the area surrounding the existing Embassy Suites, citing the negative impact of the nearby Roadway Inn on the community's image.
Thompson, who has been part of the Romulus community since 2002, emphasized that the proposed project would not only enhance the local landscape but also generate substantial tax revenue. He explained that while the company is requesting a 50% tax abatement, the new hotel is expected to increase tax contributions from approximately $50,000 to an impressive $250,000 annually. “If we don’t do it, you’re not getting the tax; it’s actually going to go down,” Thompson warned, stressing the importance of this development for the city’s financial future.
