Wappinger Central School District celebrates student achievements and community support initiatives

The Wappingers Central School District (WCSD) Board of Education meeting on May 12, 2025, showcased the community's commitment to student engagement and support through various initiatives and programs.

One of the highlights was the recognition of the Interact Club, which has successfully organized 28 events this year, including the popular "Taste of Interact." The club's presidents expressed gratitude to the Board of Education for their support, emphasizing their commitment to community service. They reported adopting 12 families during the holiday season, distributing 300 dictionaries to students, and launching a new literacy initiative that includes picture books. The club also participated in significant community events like walks for Alzheimer's and suicide prevention, and they have established a veteran advisory committee to support local veterans.

In addition to community service, the meeting celebrated student achievements, particularly in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program. Jenna Lawrence, a student from John Jay High School, received accolades for her first-place win in the dairy breed category at the New York State FFA convention. This recognition highlights the district's support for agricultural education and the opportunities it provides for students.

Trustees also shared updates on local events, including a successful spring sports season and upcoming community activities. The board encouraged residents to attend a presentation by Leslie Carrera Rudolph, known for her work in mental health, scheduled for May 17 at RCK.

The meeting concluded with reflections on the importance of community involvement and the district's ongoing efforts to foster student success and well-being.
