Under the soft glow of city hall lights, Bedford's City Council gathered on May 13, 2025, to discuss pressing community issues, with a spotlight on domestic violence prevention. Rona Huckaby, Chief of Mission for Safe Haven Tarrant County, delivered a compelling presentation on the organization's vital services and the alarming prevalence of domestic violence in the area.
Safe Haven stands as Tarrant County's only state-designated domestic violence provider, operating the sole 24-hour hotline and two shelters in Fort Worth and Arlington. Huckaby emphasized the organization's commitment to not only providing immediate support to victims but also innovating strategies to prevent future incidents. One of their groundbreaking initiatives involves identifying the dominant aggressor in violent relationships, a tool designed to aid law enforcement in assessing threats during domestic disputes.
