Morristown Council adopts redevelopment plan and cannabis business license

The Morristown Town Council convened on February 25, 2025, to address several key agenda items, including the introduction of a new redevelopment ordinance, public hearings on traffic regulations, and the adoption of resolutions related to local governance and public safety.

The meeting began with the introduction of Ordinance O-9-2025, which approves the redevelopment plan for 25 Market Street. The ordinance was introduced and unanimously supported by the council, with a public hearing scheduled for March 11.

Next, the council held a public hearing on Ordinance O-6-2025, which amends traffic regulations concerning the movement and parking of vehicles on municipal and Board of Education properties. Resolution R-52-2025, which authorizes a cost-sharing agreement with the state for the construction of a rectangular rapid flashing beacon at the intersection of Route 124 and Hamilton Road, was adopted unanimously. Council members acknowledged the challenges faced in securing funding for this safety improvement.

Lastly, Resolution R-53-2025 appointed special class officers for the 2025 calendar year, which also passed unanimously.

The meeting concluded with the nomination and unanimous approval of Chris Kirk to serve as a commissioner on the Morristown Parking Authority, filling a vacancy until December 31, 2027.
