During the recent City Council meeting on May 13, 2025, the City of Perris celebrated the achievements of its employees, highlighting the dedication and hard work of Desiree Garcia, who was named Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2025.
Desiree, an accounting specialist, has been with the city since February 2023, initially starting as a temporary employee before becoming a full-time staff member in September of the same year. A graduate of Perris High School, she participated in the city's employment program, which provided her with valuable job skills and experience. After earning her degree in criminology and justice studies from Cal State San Marcos in 2022, she joined the finance department during a challenging transition period.

Subscribe for Free Director of Finance, Matt Schenk, praised Desiree for her exceptional performance, particularly during the hectic time of upgrading the city’s water utility billing software. Despite having no prior experience in this area, she quickly became the go-to person for water billing, managing over 4,000 accounts and ensuring smooth customer service. Her proactive approach and positive attitude have made her a vital asset to the finance team.
The recognition ceremony included the presentation of a certificate by the mayor and city council, acknowledging Desiree's unwavering commitment to the city of Perris. The event was attended by family members and colleagues, celebrating her accomplishments and contributions to the community.
