Schenectady County honors Leticia Rivera and Yasmati Lejuan with SUNY Chancellor's Award

During the Schenectady County Legislature's regular meeting on May 13, 2025, a significant highlight was the recognition of two outstanding students from SUNY Schenectady, Leticia Rivera and Yasmati Lejuan, who received the prestigious 2025 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. This award honors students for their exceptional achievements in academics, leadership, community service, and the arts, with only 92 students from 63 campuses being selected this year.

Leticia Rivera, a paralegal student, was commended for her academic excellence and her impactful work at the SUNY Schenectady food pantry, where she has created a supportive environment for fellow students while balancing her studies and raising six children. Yasmati Lejuan, majoring in computer repair and networking, was recognized for her academic achievements and active involvement in student organizations, including her role as a senator in the student government association. Both students exemplify leadership and commitment to their communities, paving the way for promising futures in their respective fields.

The legislature expressed pride in these students' accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of showcasing local success stories that inspire the community. The meeting also included a ceremonial resolution proclaiming June 2025 as Bridal Month, which will be presented at a later date.
