Oceanside teams dominate 2025 SCHSL state championships in tennis and lacrosse

During the Mount Pleasant Special Town Council meeting on May 13, 2025, the council celebrated the remarkable achievements of local high school sports teams, highlighting their recent state championships in tennis and lacrosse. This recognition not only honors the athletes but also underscores the community's commitment to youth sports and the pride these victories bring to Mount Pleasant.

The Oceanside Collegiate Academy Girls Tennis Team was acknowledged for winning their fourth consecutive state title in November 2024. In a thrilling match against Christ Church Episcopal High School, the team secured a narrow 4-3 victory after five hours of intense competition, with the championship clinched in a doubles tie-breaker. This win is particularly significant as Christ Church has been a formidable opponent in the state 3A tennis division.

In addition to the tennis team's success, the meeting also celebrated the Oceanside Girls Lacrosse Team, which claimed the 2025 state championship with a 12-8 victory over rival Bishop England. The team, coached by Ashley McCulloch and Beth Horgan, finished the season with an impressive 16-4 record, facing tough competition from across South Carolina and beyond.

The council further recognized the Lucy Beckham High School Girls Lacrosse Team, which achieved its first state championship in school history with an 8-5 win over Fort Mill. Coached by Vanessa Southworth, Molly Bach, and Mandy Rumsey, the team concluded their season with a commendable 13-5 record and an undefeated run in regional play.

The Lucy Beckham Boys Lacrosse Team was also celebrated for their state championship victory, adding to the town's growing reputation as a hub for athletic excellence. The council's recognition of these teams reflects the community's support for youth sports and the positive impact such achievements have on local pride and cohesion.
