Red Oak ISD honors 12 National Math Stars nominees for 2025 scholarship program

The Red Oak Independent School District (ISD) held a regular school board meeting on May 12, 2025, where a significant highlight was the recognition of students nominated for the National Math Stars program. The program aims to identify and support students demonstrating exceptional mathematical abilities, specifically those in the top 2% of their district based on test scores.

During the meeting, it was announced that Red Oak ISD has partnered with National Math Stars to select eligible students for the 2025 cohort. A total of 12 students were recognized for their achievements as nominees, receiving certificates for their accomplishments. These students, who must be in second or third grade at the time of application, will continue through an application process that includes further exams and interviews scheduled for this summer. The final cohort will be announced in August.

The National Math Stars program will provide a total of $100,000 in scholarships over a ten-year period to assist selected students with advanced math courses, enrichment opportunities, STEM camps, and mentorship.

The nominees recognized during the meeting included students from various elementary schools within the district. Notable nominees included Julian Campos and Raylyn Easley from Eastridge Elementary, Obi Abigbo and Matthew Fryer from Red Oak Elementary, and several others from Wooden and Shields Elementary schools.

This initiative not only highlights the district's commitment to fostering mathematical talent but also provides valuable resources to support students in their educational journeys.
