Bill Buckley receives South Pasadena School District's Golden Apple Award for volunteer service

The South Pasadena Unified School District held its 2025 Regular Board of Education Meeting on May 13, 2025, where significant discussions centered around community contributions and recognitions.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the announcement of the recipient of the 2025 AXA Golden Apple Award, which was presented to Bill Buckley. Buckley has been a dedicated volunteer in the South Pasadena schools for 17 years, having moved to the area from Redondo Beach in 2007. His extensive involvement includes serving as a PTA coordinator, a volunteer for various school events, and a member of the middle school booster board, where he helped raise critical funds for sports and after-school activities.

Buckley is particularly known for his role in the Tiger Run, the second-largest fundraiser for the high school, where he has been instrumental in coordinating volunteers and organizing events. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he adapted the Tiger Run to a virtual format, ensuring its continuity and participation from runners across multiple states and even the UK.

In addition to his work with the schools, Buckley has volunteered as a referee for AYSO, participated in Girl Scouts activities, and contributed to the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses float. His commitment to the community remains strong, as he plans to continue his involvement even after his youngest daughter graduates this year.

The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement and the impact of dedicated individuals like Buckley on the local education system.
