Dr. Felicia Gonzales highlights student achievements at HOSA and Avidiom events

In the heart of Pottsgrove High School, excitement filled the air as students and faculty gathered for the latest school board meeting on May 13, 2025. The evening was marked by a celebration of student achievements and the introduction of new initiatives, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the school community.

Dr. Felicia Gonzales, the high school principal, took center stage to highlight several key topics. Among the most notable was the success of students at the recent Pennsylvania HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) state leadership conference. Competing from March 26 to 28, students from the Western Center showcased their skills in various health-related events. Dr. Gonzales proudly introduced three standout seniors: Marley Flannery, Zachary Strunk, and Gabriel Fuentes, who shared their experiences and accomplishments.

Marley Flannery, a two-time state titleholder, expressed her gratitude for the opportunities HOSA has provided, including a $2,000 scholarship for her nursing education. Zachary Strunk, who placed second in sports medicine, reflected on the joy of applying his classroom knowledge in a competitive setting. Gabriel Fuentes, who ranked tenth in medical ethics, echoed their sentiments, emphasizing the valuable connections he made during the event.

Following the HOSA discussion, Dr. Gonzales introduced the Avidiom club, which has rapidly become the largest student organization at the high school. Marco Desiderio, the club advisor and biology teacher, along with club members, shared their enthusiasm for the program, which has fostered a sense of community and engagement among students.

As the meeting progressed, the atmosphere remained charged with pride and anticipation for future endeavors. The achievements of the students not only highlighted their hard work but also underscored the supportive environment cultivated by the Pottsgrove School District. With initiatives like HOSA and Avidiom, the school continues to empower its students, preparing them for bright futures in their chosen fields.
