Katy ISD honors Tompkins High School Horizon String Quartet state champions

During the recent Katy Independent School District (KISD) Board meeting, the spotlight shone brightly on the district's fine arts achievements, as the Tompkins High School Horizon String Quartet was honored for their remarkable success at the state level. This year, KISD showcased its talent by having seven out of twenty ensembles selected for the inaugural state chamber music competition, a significant accomplishment that underscores the district's commitment to arts education.

Damon Archer, the executive director of fine arts, presented the accolades, highlighting that Katy ISD earned four out of six possible placements in the competition. The Horizon String Quartet, consisting of Jake Jiang, Arjun Chandel Patla, Crystal Yang, and Andrew Yang, was recognized as state champions, a testament to their hard work and dedication. The meeting included a brief performance by the quartet, allowing attendees to experience a glimpse of their award-winning talent.

In addition to the fine arts recognition, the meeting featured a visit from Nathan Krueger, a Life Scout from Cinco Ranch High School, who shared his experiences in scouting. Krueger is currently working on his citizenship and community merit badge, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and the friendships he has formed through scouting. His presence highlighted the district's support for youth engagement and character development.

The meeting concluded with a celebration of these achievements, reinforcing Katy ISD's commitment to fostering both academic and artistic excellence within the community.
