Collegiate Prep parents raise concerns over classroom observations and TikTok videos

During the Cedar Hill Independent School District (ISD) regular meeting on April 21, 2025, community members shared heartfelt moments and pressing concerns that highlighted both the joys and challenges within the district.

One of the most uplifting moments came from a performance by the choir, led by Baron Coleman and Principal John Edmond. They entertained attendees with songs, including a special rendition of "Happy Birthday" for a beloved community member celebrating her 98th birthday. This joyful celebration was noted as a highlight of the evening, showcasing the strong community spirit within Cedar Hill ISD.

However, the meeting also addressed serious issues raised by parents advocating for their children. Vanessa Smith, a parent of a first-grade student at Collegiate Prep Elementary, expressed her frustrations regarding a lack of resolution to her concerns about her child's learning environment. After conducting a classroom observation, she sought accountability from the board, emphasizing her desire to avoid any retaliation against her daughter for speaking out. The board acknowledged her concerns but noted that specific student issues must be handled through appropriate administrative channels.

Another parent raised concerns about the use of students in TikTok videos created by teachers, questioning the appropriateness of such content and its impact on student privacy. This issue sparked a discussion about the boundaries of educational content and the responsibilities of educators in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
