Coppell designates May 13 as Cowgirls Golf Day honoring state championship team

The Coppell City Council meeting on May 13, 2025, celebrated the achievements of the Coppell High School Girls Varsity Golf Team, which recently won the UIL 6A Girls State Golf Championship. Mayor Wes Mays proclaimed this date as "Coppell Cowgirls Golf Day" in recognition of the team's exceptional performance and sportsmanship throughout the season.

The team, led by head coach Gary Beyer and assistant coach Jason Spoor, achieved a remarkable milestone by securing district, regional, and state titles. Their victory at the state championship, held at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, Texas, was highlighted by a two-day team total of 607, surpassing the reigning champions, Vandergriff High School. Junior Alicia Belanger earned individual honors by capturing the UIL class 6A girls state title.

During the meeting, the mayor encouraged all citizens to congratulate the team for their accomplishments, emphasizing the values of commitment and teamwork that the team exemplifies. The council presented a proclamation to the team, which included a ceremonial signing of a flag and a golf ball to commemorate their victory.

In addition to the golf team's recognition, the council also designated the week of May as Emergency Medical Services Week, inviting local emergency services leaders to participate in the discussions. This initiative aims to honor and acknowledge the vital role of emergency medical services in the community.

The meeting underscored the city's commitment to celebrating local achievements while fostering community spirit and support for its youth and emergency services.
