Arapahoe County approves $300K for rental assistance amid budget adjustments

During the recent Arapahoe Board of County Commissioners Study Session, key discussions centered around funding allocations and resource management for various county services, with a particular focus on maintenance, community resources, and law enforcement.

One of the highlighted topics was the Building Maintenance Fund, which is set to receive $2.1 million for routine upkeep and special projects across county facilities in 2025. This includes essential maintenance work such as resealing parking lots and upgrading fire alarm control panels at multiple locations. The fund is designed to ensure that county facilities remain safe and operational for public use.

A significant request was made to allocate an additional $300,000 to the county's rental assistance program. This funding aims to support families facing housing instability, as the current budget is projected to be insufficient to meet ongoing needs. Officials noted that the program has been crucial in keeping thousands of families housed, highlighting the importance of federal funding in addressing local housing challenges.

The Sheriff's Office also presented several requests, including a $9,850 allocation for a new floor scrubber to improve maintenance efficiency in their facilities. Additionally, there was a proposal to transfer $3 million to build a third courtroom, anticipating an increase in judicial needs with the expected addition of a new judge next year.

Other discussions included the transition of domestic violence cases from municipal court, which will require additional resources and personnel. The District Attorney's Office is seeking funding for new positions to manage this transition effectively, with a total impact estimated at $3.8 million.

The meeting also addressed various departmental requests, including funding for technology upgrades, labor relations positions, and public works projects. Notably, the Board recommended moving forward with most requests while deferring a few, such as the labor relations administrator position, for further evaluation.
