BCYF allocates $9.5M to expand youth programs and job opportunities in Baltimore

Baltimore City Youth Fund (BCYF) is set to significantly enhance youth opportunities this summer with a $9.5 million investment aimed at fostering leadership and community engagement among young residents. This funding, announced during a recent City Council hearing, will create 8,500 paid job opportunities through the YouthWorks program, which is crucial for staffing grassroots summer initiatives.

Since its inception in 2020, BCYF has awarded $32 million to over 100 organizations, with a focus on supporting black and brown-led grassroots groups. The funding aims to provide meaningful experiences for youth, ensuring that summer programs are not just seasonal but a foundation for year-round development. The 2025 summer strategy emphasizes safe and joyful activities that promote growth and connection across neighborhoods.

In addition to YouthWorks, the funding includes $2.9 million for summer programs through the Summer Funding Collaborative, reflecting a $900,000 increase from the previous year. This allocation will support 47 community-based organizations involved in various fields such as arts, health, and civic engagement.

BCYF's commitment to transparency and accountability in managing public funds was also highlighted. The organization has implemented a rigorous compliance framework, requiring grantees to submit monthly financial reports and undergo regular audits to ensure responsible use of funds.
