Elkhart School Board acknowledges $10K in donations and service retirements

During the recent ECS Board of School Trustees meeting on May 13, 2025, board members celebrated significant community support for local schools, highlighted by over $10,000 in donations from various businesses and individuals. This funding will enhance several school projects and programs, demonstrating the strong partnership between the schools and the community.

Notable contributions included a $500 donation from the Beverson family to the boys' track team and $1,000 from Brian's Tree Service to the unified track team, which is coached by a local teacher. The Elkhart Career Center received $475 for teacher appreciation week from Innovia, while the Bruce Porch Automotive Heritage Scholarship was bolstered by a $2,000 donation from Kurt and Julie Olsen.

In addition to these larger donations, numerous local businesses contributed smaller amounts for staff recognition and appreciation, including $325 from Horace Mann and $700 from Matzke Florist for floral arrangements for the teacher appreciation dinner. The meeting also recognized the retirement of several long-serving staff members, including Pam Melcher, who dedicated 31 years to the food department, and Clyde Riley, who served for 25 years.

The board expressed gratitude for the community's generosity and the invaluable contributions of retiring staff, emphasizing the importance of these relationships in fostering a supportive educational environment. As the school year progresses, the board looks forward to utilizing these funds to enhance student experiences and honor the legacy of dedicated educators.
