Some counties, like Yankton and Hand, have streamlined this process by assigning a single commissioner to make decisions based on the screening tool provided by the welfare director. This approach allows funeral homes to proceed with services, knowing whether the county will cover costs.

Additionally, the meeting touched on administrative rules regarding the timely cremation of remains, which must occur within six days. This regulation adds urgency to the need for a clear and efficient approval process for funeral assistance.
