Commission approves $48K change order for Bay Street environmental remediation project

The Port of Bremerton Commissioners have approved a significant change order for environmental remediation at the Bay Street Properties, ensuring the project remains on track for completion. During the meeting on May 13, 2025, the commissioners authorized an additional $48,501 to Innovative Construction Solutions, bringing the total contract amount to approximately $335,007. This funding will cover unforeseen challenges that arose during the initial phases of the project, which has already seen expenditures of $275,071 for environmental analysis, testing, and permitting.

The timeline for the project is ambitious, with plans to mobilize and begin tank removal by June 1. The goal is to have the site graded and completed by September 1, 2025. Following the grading, there will be three years of testing to ensure environmental safety. In the interim, the site will be utilized for laydown areas for breakwater construction and additional parking.

Commissioner Bozeman moved to approve the change order, which was unanimously supported by the board. This swift action reflects the commissioners' commitment to advancing the project efficiently while addressing environmental concerns. The approval not only facilitates immediate progress but also reinforces the port's dedication to responsible development in the community.
