Sandoval County declares May 2025 National Military Appreciation Month

The Sandoval County Board of County Commissioners held a meeting on May 14, 2025, where they proclaimed May as National Military Appreciation Month. This designation honors all individuals who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces, which includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

The proclamation highlights the significant presence of military personnel in New Mexico, noting approximately 41,558 veterans and 22,106 active duty service members residing in the state. Additionally, New Mexico is home to four military installations: Cannon Air Force Base, Holloman Air Force Base, Kirtland Air Force Base, and White Sands Missile Range.

During the meeting, the commissioners emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by military members and their families. The month of May serves as a reminder of the vital role the Armed Forces have played in the history and development of both New Mexico and the nation.

Following the proclamation, the commissioners introduced a special guest, a wounded warrior from the community, who was acknowledged for his positive attitude and contributions. The meeting concluded with a call for the community to celebrate and honor military service members throughout the month.
