Sweet Home schools prepare for budget vote and community events on May 20

The Sweet Home community is gearing up for a vibrant day of celebration and civic engagement on May 20, 2025, as the Board of Education prepares for its annual budget vote. This year’s voting event will not only determine the school budget and board candidates but will also feature a highly anticipated logo contest, showcasing the creativity of students and community members alike.

The festivities will take place at the Virgil Center, where attendees can participate in various activities throughout the day. Highlights include a district art show, an elementary track meet starting at 9:45 AM, and a chicken barbecue dessert sale running from 7 AM to 7 PM. The day will culminate with a concert by the high school orchestra at 7:30 PM.

“Hopefully, the weather holds out for everybody, and we hope to see our entire school community here on May 20,” said a district representative, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the voting process. The event is designed to be inclusive, allowing not just adults but also students and faculty to cast their votes in the logo contest, which has generated excitement across the district.

In addition to the voting activities, the district recently organized a tour for the ten finalists of the logo contest at 26 Shirts, where students learned about careers in art from industry professionals. This partnership has been praised for its positive impact on student engagement and creativity.

Looking ahead, the district will also host a "Challenge to Change" event on May 30, focusing on themes of kindness and belonging, further fostering community connections. Additionally, the district will be closed on May 23 and May 26 in observance of Memorial Day, as part of a new provision in the teachers' contract.
