Castlebinds Planning Commission approves Goodman rezone and opens Sundance Solar public hearing

The Elbert County government meeting on May 14, 2025, focused on significant land use issues, including a rezone request and a solar project proposal. The meeting began with a presentation regarding the Goodman rezone application, which seeks to change zoning for a property to allow for larger 10-acre lots. The board members expressed no immediate questions, and a motion was made to approve the Goodman rezone application, which passed unanimously. Following this, the meeting transitioned to discuss the Sundance Solar project, which involves a major permit application and a special use review for a solar facility on approximately 600 acres of a larger 1,100-acre agricultural-zoned site.

Planning Manager Jennifer Jones presented details about the solar project, noting that it complies with existing zoning regulations. She also addressed public concerns regarding the project’s notification process and clarified that the project was intended to be presented at the current location. The meeting included a brief recess to accommodate attendees and ensure proper seating.
