Colorado plans new rail service from Denver to Granby and Yampa Valley

A new transportation initiative is set to enhance connectivity in Colorado, with the Colorado Department of Transportation announcing plans for a new rail service from Denver to Granby. This service, akin to the existing Winter Park Express, is part of a phased approach to improve travel options in the region.

Phase 1 will feature one round trip from Denver to Granby, expected to launch by the end of next year. This initial step has already received approval from Union Pacific (UP), marking a significant milestone for the project. However, further phases are still under discussion, with additional routes being considered.

Among the proposed expansions is the Yampa Valley service, which aims to provide local travel options to and from Steamboat Springs Resort and downtown Steamboat Springs. Another potential route could extend all the way from Denver to Craig, enhancing access to the corridor.

While the first phase is confirmed, the details of subsequent phases remain to be determined. Currently, there is existing passenger rail service from Denver to areas like Kremling and Bond, but the Yampa Valley lacks such service, highlighting the need for these new developments.
