Tehachapi High School sports teams achieve notable successes across multiple events

The Tehachapi Unified School District's recent sports update highlights a successful season for various athletic teams, showcasing their achievements and upcoming challenges.

In tennis, the varsity team finished the league season with 11 wins and 12 losses, despite losing their top player to injury early in the year. They qualified for the CIF team playoffs, securing a high seed for a home match in Division 5. Notably, a doubles team of freshman Colton Young and junior Robert Clem earned fourth place in individual playoffs, allowing them to represent the league at the area playoffs later this month.

The junior varsity program also had a commendable season, with a doubles team of James Mangelsdorf and Noah Cardenas finishing third out of eight teams in their individual playoffs. Both teams are looking forward to participating in the JMS field day event on May 30.

In track and field, the girls' team finished third in the league standings, while the boys secured second place. Several athletes received medals for their performances, and those qualifying for CIF will compete in Reedley for a chance to advance to the masters meet in Fresno. A standout moment came when Delilah Cardenas set a new school record in the girls' triple jump, surpassing a record that had stood since 1996.

The boys' golf team had an undefeated season, winning the league with a perfect 5-0 record. They qualified for the Division 3 Valley Championship, with Tristan Hurst leading the team with an average score of 80. The championship is set for May 13 at Tulare Golf Course.

In softball, the junior varsity team remains undefeated in league play, while the varsity team holds a league record of 6-0 and is poised to clinch the league title in their upcoming games against South High School.

Swimming also saw success, with both varsity boys and girls teams currently undefeated in league play. Several athletes have qualified for CIF Division 1 championships, which will take place in Clovis.

Lastly, the varsity baseball team is looking forward to playoffs beginning May 16, with a current league record of 11-11 and an overall record of 21-6. The junior varsity team is also in contention for the league title, holding an 8-0 league record.

Overall, the Tehachapi Warriors have demonstrated strong performances across multiple sports, fostering a sense of community pride as they head into the final stretch of their seasons.
