The Marietta Educational Garden Center's executive director provided an update during the recent Finance/Investments Committee special meeting, highlighting the center's achievements and upcoming events. Since taking on the role in February 2018, the director has overseen significant developments at Fair Oaks, the historic site built in 1850.
The center is preparing to celebrate its 70th anniversary this fall, showcasing its transformation over the years. The director shared historical photos illustrating the property’s journey from disrepair to its current vibrant state, now serving as the home base for the Marietta Council of Garden Clubs and hosting various community events.

Subscribe for Free One of the center's key initiatives is the annual Fall Family Fun Day, which is free and open to the public. Last year's event featured educational activities, including a presentation on bats by the Chattahoochee Nature Center, along with crafts and games for families. The center also engages in fundraising activities throughout the year, including the popular Lucy's Christmas Tea, which supports both the garden center and the Zachary Harrison Hardin Memorial Scholarship.
Looking ahead, the center is excited to host its fifth annual Cannonball Classic Golf Tournament at City Club Marietta, emphasizing local partnerships and community involvement. The fiscal year 2025 budget has allocated funds for promoting the center as a venue for various events, including weddings and parties, with a focus on utilizing local vendors.
As of May, the garden center has successfully booked 26 events, demonstrating its role as a key community resource and event space in Marietta. The ongoing efforts to enhance the center's offerings and community engagement reflect its commitment to serving the public and preserving local history.
