Shakopee High School hosts state speech tournament and prepares for Harry Potter performance

Shakopee Public Schools celebrated a series of student achievements during the May 12, 2025, Board Meeting, highlighting the district's commitment to fostering talent and community engagement. The meeting showcased the success of various student groups, including those participating in state and national competitions.

Activities Director Andy Brown reported on the recent state speech tournament hosted by the school, where Shakopee students excelled, with several earning top placements. Notably, Grama, one of the students, was selected as a graduation speaker, reflecting the high caliber of talent within the student body.

The board also recognized Shania, a student who qualified for National History Day, marking a significant milestone in her academic journey. Her documentary project, developed with guidance from her history teacher, will be presented at a national level in Maryland this June.

In addition to academic achievements, the board discussed the upcoming performance of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," a prestigious opportunity for Shakopee High School, as only 29 schools nationwide were selected to stage the production. The event has generated significant interest, with tickets for the opening night already sold out.

The meeting also addressed the district's financial planning, with a preliminary budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year presented by the finance director. This budget aims to support ongoing educational initiatives and student programs.

Community support was a recurring theme, with the board expressing gratitude for recent donations received during Teacher Appreciation Week, which will enhance various school programs.
