Costco improves traffic flow with bypass lane and new truck exit procedures

Traffic congestion on Costco Drive is set to improve significantly thanks to a proposed bypass lane at the Costco facility in Monroe Township. During a recent Planning Board meeting, officials discussed the ongoing issues with trucks queuing on public roadways during peak hours, particularly in the mornings.

The bypass lane aims to streamline the entry process for Costco-owned vehicles, allowing them to bypass the check-in line and access the facility more efficiently. This change is expected to reduce the number of trucks waiting on the road, alleviating traffic congestion that has been a persistent problem in the area.

In addition to addressing entry traffic, the meeting also touched on concerns regarding trucks leaving the site with open tailgates. Currently, some trucks stop on Costco Drive to close their gates after inspection, which contributes to further delays. Plans are in place to ensure that trucks can pull over on-site after exiting the guardhouse to close their gates, minimizing disruption on the roadway.

Board members expressed the need for clear signage to direct drivers to the designated area for closing gates, enhancing compliance with the new procedures.
