The Solano County Board of Supervisors officially proclaimed the week of May 13, 2025, as Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Week, honoring the significant contributions of local high school JROTC units. The unanimous vote, 5-0, celebrated the dedication of students from Armijo, Vanden, Jesse Bethel, and Fairfield High Schools, who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and community service.
During the meeting, Board members expressed pride in the military-oriented culture of Solano County, highlighting the area's historical ties to the military, including the presence of Travis Air Force Base and the Cal Maritime Academy. "We are very lucky in our county that we have so many different schools and campuses where the Junior ROTC is embraced," said a board member, emphasizing the program's role in shaping young leaders.

Subscribe for Free Cadets from Armijo High School were recognized for their impressive 400 hours of community service, which included environmental cleanups and support for local charities. Vanden High School cadets contributed over 1,400 hours, participating in events like the Veterans Day Parade and fundraising for foster children. Jesse Bethel High School cadets also showcased their commitment through various community service activities, while Fairfield High School's program reported over 2,400 hours of service.
The meeting featured heartfelt testimonials from cadets, who shared how the JROTC program has positively impacted their lives and aspirations. Cadet Colonel Caleb Eastland from Vanden High School expressed gratitude for the leadership skills gained through the program, stating, "Without these opportunities, we wouldn't be the people we are today."
In addition to recognizing JROTC Week, the Board also adopted a resolution declaring May 20, 2025, as National Rescue Dog Day in Solano County, further showcasing the community's commitment to service and welfare. The recognition of these programs underscores the importance of youth engagement and leadership development in the region.
