Dunbar School celebrates new community partnerships at district event

The Little Rock School District (LRSD) celebrated significant partnerships and achievements during its recent school board meeting on May 15, 2025. The meeting highlighted collaborations aimed at enhancing educational experiences for students at Dunbar Magnet Middle School, showcasing the community's commitment to supporting local education.

Principal Kane and partnership liaison Charlotte Joyner Watson introduced several new partnerships that promise to enrich the school's curriculum and provide essential resources. Notably, the Arkansas Teachers Federal Credit Union will assist in promoting financial literacy among students, staff, and parents. Dollar General will contribute by providing general supplies and teaching students customer service skills, while SkinFix Med Spa will support students interested in cosmetology and provide assistance for holiday meals.

The meeting also recognized the longstanding support from Second Baptist Church, which has officially formalized its partnership with Dunbar, and Verizon, which will offer insights into business solutions and customer service management. New Tyler Barber College and the Beacon of Hope Youth Foundation were also acknowledged for their roles in fostering entrepreneurship and providing real-world skills through business fairs.

In addition to these partnerships, the board celebrated the achievements of 76 Arkansas Scholar graduates for the class of 2025, emphasizing the district's commitment to academic excellence. Principal Kane underscored the importance of business and leadership education, noting that partnerships are crucial for preparing students for future success.

The meeting concluded with a series of recognitions, including the undefeated soccer team from Mary Lacey School and various awards for outstanding teachers and students across the district. The board also announced upcoming events, including graduation ceremonies and an academic signing day for top-performing students.
