Ogden celebrates seven athletes earning academic all-state honors and scholarships

During the Ogden City School District Board of Education meeting on May 15, 2025, the spotlight shone brightly on seven outstanding student-athletes who were recognized as Academic All-State recipients for the spring season. This accolade highlights not only their athletic prowess but also their academic excellence, as the combined GPA of these students reached an impressive 4.0.

The ceremony began with Shay Stevens, a remarkable three-time recipient of the award, who has excelled in cross country, swimming, and track. Shay recently earned the prestigious UI Bridal Scholarship, awarded to only four student-athletes statewide across all divisions. She will further her education at the University of Utah on a full scholarship, marking a significant achievement for both her and the Ogden community.

Samantha Stark, a two-time recipient, was also honored. She has earned accolades in swimming and track and plans to attend Brigham Young University to study dance education. Jackson Drake, another two-time recipient, has shown his talents in cross country and track, and while he has yet to decide on his future school, his academic performance suggests he has many options ahead.

Adam Ballard, who could not attend due to a scheduling conflict with a volleyball banquet, is set to graduate with an International Baccalaureate diploma and will pursue aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Kenzie George, representing the softball team, has signed with Western Nebraska Community College to continue her athletic career.

Two other recipients, Peter Andres and Rusted Reddish, were acknowledged for their achievements in boys' tennis and cross country, respectively. Reddish has committed to running at Snow College, further showcasing the diverse talents of Ogden's student-athletes.

This recognition not only celebrates individual accomplishments but also reflects the commitment of Ogden City School District to fostering both academic and athletic excellence among its students. The meeting concluded with a call for family members to join the recipients for photographs, emphasizing the community's support for these young achievers. As these students prepare for their next steps, their achievements serve as an inspiration for their peers and a point of pride for the Ogden community.
