Brookline Select Board approves Arbor Day celebration on May 31 at Olmsted Park

Brookline's Select Board made significant strides during their meeting on May 13, 2025, approving two important proclamations that highlight the town's commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship. The board unanimously endorsed a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day, which will be celebrated on May 31, aligning with the town's Springfest activities. This celebration will take place at Olmsted Park and will include educational events such as a tree identification walk, emphasizing the value of trees in the community.

Commissioner of Public Works Erin Schute expressed pride in Brookline's status as a Tree City USA community for over three decades, underscoring the importance of this celebration for residents. The decision to select May 31 for Arbor Day was made to coincide with local festivities, providing a meaningful opportunity for community participation.

In addition to the Arbor Day proclamation, the board also approved several budgetary adjustments aimed at enhancing community programming. Notably, funds were reallocated within the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Relations to support events celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and upcoming Juneteenth activities. Similarly, adjustments were made to cover costs associated with Public Service Recognition Week.
