Sunnyvale officials announce El Camino bike ride and budget workshop schedule

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) meeting held on May 15, 2025, in Sunnyvale, focused on several key topics, including upcoming community events and budget discussions related to local cycling and pedestrian projects.

One of the main highlights was the announcement of the El Camino bike ride scheduled for Saturday, which will start at the Caltrain station in Santa Clara and extend to Menlo Park, covering a distance of 17 miles. Commissioner Bowman emphasized the importance of community participation in this event, which aims to promote cycling along El Camino Real and potentially influence improvements to the area. Participants can register through Eventbrite, and various sections of the route are accessible for those who may not wish to complete the entire distance.

City staff also provided updates on ongoing initiatives. They reported on a successful event at Dosso Plaza, where 65 cyclists participated, and encouraged residents to complete a survey regarding the Sunnyvale Caltrain Station bicycle study, which will close on May 25. Additionally, staff announced upcoming workshops related to the channel study and the village center master plan, with important meetings scheduled for June 3 and June 17 regarding budget introductions and adoptions.

The meeting concluded with a reminder that the draft of the village center master plan will be available for review prior to the planning commission meeting, allowing BPAC members to provide input. The commission adjourned at 11:29 PM, with a focus on fostering community engagement in cycling and pedestrian initiatives.
