Susquehannock Alumni Association awards scholarships honoring community members

The Southern York County School District held its SHS Scholarship Awards Night on May 16, 2025, celebrating the achievements of graduating seniors and honoring the memory of individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. The event featured the presentation of various scholarships, each with its own unique background and purpose.

The evening began with the Susquehannock Alumni Association Memorial Scholarship, awarded to Kate Tomasik in recognition of alumni who have passed away. Following this, Erin Ross, the Foundation Director, presented the Doctor George Trout Scholarship, a $6,200 award for students pursuing pre-med studies, which was given to Dina Masapu.

The program continued with the James McKinney Memorial Scholarship, honoring a beloved former science teacher, awarded to Ava Grace Silliman. The James Nicholson Memorial Scholarship, aimed at students majoring in business, was presented to Vicki Chen. The Judy and Thomas Quach Scholarship, supporting students in health sciences, was awarded to Noah Pollock.

Mary Lee Hall, another Foundation Director, took the stage to present the Carl Stager Scholarship, which went to Chloe Warner for her pursuit of music studies. The Larry J. Miller Distinguished Service Scholarship, honoring a dedicated Foundation director, was awarded to Chloe Franklin. The Lion Star Scholarship, providing significant financial assistance, was given to Vicki Chin.

Gail Prego, another Foundation Director, presented the Matthew Gantz Memorial Award, honoring a former student lost in an accident, awarded to Anshi Patel. The Michael L. Wall Memorial Scholarship, in memory of a former state senator, was awarded to Jaden Miller. The Richard and Barbara Edsel Scholarship, established by a fellow classmate, was presented to Rowan Sirocka, while the Richard Anspacher Memorial Scholarship went to Elizabeth Morgan.

The evening concluded with the Robert Williams Memorial Scholarship, awarded to Avery Broadway, who was unable to attend the ceremony. The event highlighted the commitment of the Southern York County community to support its students and honor the legacies of those who have contributed to its educational landscape.
