Grain Valley Schools is celebrating a significant legislative win as the Missouri Senate has approved full funding for the state adequacy target, ensuring the district will receive its complete funding for the upcoming school year. This decision, part of House Bill 2, marks a crucial step forward for the district's budget, allowing for increased staffing and salary raises.
During the recent school board meeting on May 15, 2025, district officials expressed optimism about the financial outlook, noting that they are on track with revenues and expenditures as the school year wraps up. Superintendent Dr. Gooch highlighted the importance of this funding, stating, “This is a huge win,” and emphasized that it will enable the district to move forward with hiring additional staff and making necessary purchases.
In addition to the funding news, the district reported a solid student attendance rate of 89.1%, just shy of their goal of 90%. While the last weeks of school present challenges for boosting attendance, administrators are pleased with the progress made this year.
The board also approved the addition of two paraprofessional positions for the 2025-2026 school year, responding to specific student needs. Furthermore, a new technology system administrator role was authorized to support the increasing demands of software systems within the district.
In a related discussion, the board addressed the ongoing issue of lunch debt, which has risen to $96,000. Efforts are underway to alleviate this burden, including community support initiatives.
As the district prepares for the next school year, the anticipated budget revisions will be presented at the June workshop, reflecting the positive funding developments and the district's commitment to enhancing educational support for students and staff alike.
