Mayor Crocker proclaims May as Travel and Tourism Week in Victoria, Texas

During the recent Victoria City Council meeting, Mayor Dwayne Crocker proclaimed May as Travel and Tourism Week in Victoria, highlighting the significant contributions of the local tourism industry to the community's economy and cultural heritage. The mayor emphasized that in 2024, the travel and tourism sector generated an estimated $207 million in visitor spending, supported over 1,200 jobs, and contributed more than $16 million in state and local taxes, effectively saving each household in Victoria over $500 annually.

Crocker encouraged residents to embrace their role as ambassadors for the city, welcoming visitors and promoting local attractions. He expressed gratitude for the community's efforts in supporting tourism, particularly during the city's bicentennial celebrations last year.

In addition to tourism, the council recognized National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week, which take place from May 6 to May 12. The mayor acknowledged the vital role of healthcare workers at DITAR Healthcare System, praising their dedication and resilience in providing high-quality care to the community. He urged citizens to celebrate and appreciate the healthcare professionals who contribute significantly to the well-being of Victoria and its surrounding areas.
