County Clerk Diana proposes office consolidation for increased efficiency and cost savings

In a recent meeting of the Eaton County Ways & Means Committee, a significant proposal aimed at improving efficiency and reducing costs within the county's offices was discussed. The plan involves a strategic office swap between the Clerk's and Treasurer's offices, which is expected to streamline operations and enhance service delivery for residents.

Clerk Rick Bosworth presented the idea, highlighting the need for his department to adapt following recent personnel cuts. By consolidating the Clerk's office with the Treasurer's office through a connecting passageway, staff from both departments will be cross-trained. This move is designed to address staffing shortages, particularly in the vital records office, ensuring that services remain uninterrupted even during times of illness or absence.

The consolidation will also lead to a reduction in management positions, allowing for a more efficient structure. Bosworth noted that this change would enable the Clerk's office to operate with one chief deputy instead of two, freeing up resources to better support the election department, which has long needed dedicated oversight.

Commissioner Woodbury expressed strong support for the proposal, emphasizing its practicality and the long-standing vision of making such a change. The Treasurer, Darris Rinnett, also voiced his commitment to the move, stating that his office is willing to adapt to facilitate the transition.

The committee confirmed that the proposed office move would not require a budget amendment, as identified savings from the facilities director would cover the associated costs. A motion to approve the office relocation was unanimously supported, marking a proactive step towards enhancing operational efficiency within Eaton County's government.
