Saint Peter's School installs air monitoring devices to address odor concerns

The FHSD Board of Education meeting on May 15, 2025, focused on ongoing efforts to address odor issues at a local school building. The meeting highlighted the steps taken to investigate and mitigate the problem, which has raised concerns among staff and parents.

During the meeting, it was reported that two plumbing contractors had been involved in the investigation, with multiple site visits conducted to gather data. The collected information enabled Case Engineering to develop a comprehensive report, which was shared with the board. Key actions taken include the installation of air vent valves on the roof to prevent odors from escaping and being drawn into the building's air handling system. Approximately 60 valves were installed as part of this effort.

Additionally, air monitoring devices were placed in areas with the highest reports of odor to capture data on air quality. Kevin Roberts from Pension LLC, the environmental company hired for air monitoring, was present to discuss the findings. The board also communicated with the City of St. Peters regarding potential sewer system issues that could affect the school. The city's health department reviewed the situation and found the measures taken so far to be satisfactory.

The pressure differential tests conducted on the sewer mains and roof vents indicated no significant issues, with results showing neutral or slightly negative pressure, which is expected. The board continues to monitor the situation and respond to any new reports of odor.

As the Case Engineering report is under review, the board is implementing many of its recommendations and is awaiting further feedback from the engineering team. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for students and staff at the school.
