Residents express concerns over proposed housing development in River Heights

Concerns over potential residential development dominated the River Heights City Planning Commission meeting on February 11, 2025, as local residents voiced their apprehensions about the impact on their community.

Wayne Davis, a resident of Stone Creek Drive, raised critical questions regarding the implications of new homes on property taxes, water pressure, and fire safety. "Will there be extra fire hydrants put in over in that area?" he asked, highlighting the need for infrastructure to support any new development. Davis expressed his opposition to the project, emphasizing the importance of community input before any decisions are made.

Other residents echoed similar sentiments. Danille Spencer, a landowner nearby, expressed concerns about how the development might affect her animals' access to water. Justin Robinson, who moved to River Heights for its rural charm, warned that increased housing could disrupt the community's agricultural character and lead to a loss of open space. "This land's gonna get developed. We're gonna lose this beautiful spot," he lamented.

Nyle Grant and Robert Kidd also shared their worries about maintaining the area's agricultural identity amidst potential residential expansion. Kidd noted the historical significance of the land and urged the commission to consider the community's agricultural roots in their planning.
