Utah prepares for Great ShakeOut earthquake drill on April 17

Sunset City Council members are gearing up for the Great ShakeOut Challenge on April 17, 2025, aimed at enhancing earthquake preparedness in the community. Council member Barclay highlighted the urgency of readiness, noting that the Utah Geological Survey estimates a 57% chance of a significant earthquake occurring in the Wasatch Front within the next 50 years. The challenge will include various activities designed to educate residents on how to prepare for potential seismic events.

In conjunction with this initiative, Barclay is collaborating with Public Works Director Monroe to assess and improve the city's emergency response equipment. This proactive approach underscores the council's commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of Sunset City residents.

Meanwhile, Public Works Director Monroe addressed ongoing construction at Central Park, warning residents to exercise caution when accessing the area due to heavy machinery and potential hazards. He also reported that his team is working on installing new signage and stop lines to enhance safety for children returning to school.
