Zoe Meekum advances to state Civics Bee finals in Salt Lake City

During the recent Hurricane City Council meeting on May 15, 2025, two local students were recognized for their achievements in civic engagement. Meghan Cain and Zoey Meekum, both participants in the Civics Bee, were celebrated for their dedication to learning about government and civic responsibilities. Zoey was particularly highlighted for advancing to the state finals in Salt Lake City after being selected as one of the top ten finalists from a pool of twenty. Meghan, while placing sixteenth, expressed her enjoyment of the experience and the opportunity to connect with peers.

The council members presented each student with city pins as a token of appreciation for their efforts in promoting civic knowledge among youth. This recognition underscores the importance of engaging young people in local governance and civic education.

Following the student recognition, the meeting transitioned to public forum discussions. Ross Johnson was invited to address the council regarding a project he is working on, seeking insights and direction from council members.
