California Legislative Black Caucus honors Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's 26th annual Capitol Day

The California Senate recently celebrated the 26th annual AKA Day at the Capitol, honoring the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA), the first African American Greek letter sorority founded in 1908 at Howard University. The event, led by the chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus, highlighted the sorority's long-standing commitment to community service, equity, and justice.

With over 14,000 active members and chapters across the United States and internationally, AKA plays a vital role in uplifting communities through various initiatives focused on education, empowerment, and leadership for women and girls. Notable members include influential figures such as Maya Angelou, Coretta Scott King, and Vice President Kamala Harris.

During the session, the chair acknowledged the sorority's impact and welcomed several prominent members and community leaders who joined the celebration.
