The first grant of $10,000 will fund poll banners displayed throughout Burke County, promoting local events and attractions. The second grant will support a Revolutionary War Week event scheduled for September, featuring historic site tours and educational opportunities for local fourth graders. This event aims to enhance community engagement and celebrate Burke County's rich Revolutionary War history.
The meeting also recognized the efforts of local volunteers in the recent Spring Litter Sweep, where 55 participants collected 445 bags of trash and 21 bags of recyclables. Awards were presented to various teams, including the Burke River Trail Litter Getters, who led the initiative with 39 bags of trash collected.
Additionally, the Longview Lions Club was honored for its 75 years of service in the community, emphasizing their commitment to vision screenings and humanitarian efforts. The club's contributions were acknowledged through a proclamation celebrating their impact in Burke County.
