Indy Parks allocates $2M for facility improvements and launches Riverside Adventure Park

A significant $2 million investment in Indy Parks was unveiled during the City Council of Indianapolis meeting on May 20, 2025, aimed at enhancing facilities and amenities across the city. This funding represents over 30% of the annual capital improvement plan, underscoring the city's commitment to maintaining and upgrading its parks.

The largest allocation of $900,000 will focus on improving basketball, tennis, pickleball, and futsal courts at 60 locations across 28 parks. This initiative includes essential repairs such as new striping, surface repairs, and updated netting and goals, which are expected to enhance user experience and extend the lifespan of these facilities.

Additional funding will support a bulk purchase of site amenities like picnic tables and benches, alongside $249,000 earmarked for increased landscape maintenance at various parks. Notably, a one-time investment will replace the lighting system at Ellenberger Park's tennis and pickleball courts, addressing the growing demand for pickleball facilities.

The Garfield Park Conservatory will also benefit from a $150,000 HVAC replacement, ensuring optimal climate conditions for plant health. Furthermore, modernization efforts will enhance interior fixtures at family centers and pools, improving both aesthetics and functionality.

City Council members have also identified parks in their districts for $1 million in improvements, with public meetings scheduled for this summer to discuss project bids. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to invest in the city’s parks, highlighted by the recent opening of the Riverside Adventure Park, which features extensive trails, playgrounds, and outdoor exercise equipment.

In addition to these developments, the city is expanding its drive and dish program in partnership with Gleaners Food Bank and the Pacers, aiming to combat food insecurity by providing residents with free groceries at park centers. As summer approaches, preparations for pool openings and summer camps are underway, with spots still available for eager families.
