The City of Ridgecrest is set to enhance its public safety capabilities following a recent budget workshop meeting held on May 20, 2025. A key highlight from the meeting was the approval of a new storage building for the police department, which will significantly improve the management of evidence and emergency vehicles.
The new facility, to be constructed by the public works department, will provide much-needed space for storing evidence and protecting essential equipment, such as the emergency rescue vehicle and police motorcycles, from sun damage. Currently, some of this equipment is stored in private residences due to a lack of adequate space at the police department.

This proactive approach aims to deter potential criminal activity before it occurs. Chief Travis reassured community members that the Flock system is strictly used for criminal investigations and not for random surveillance.
Additionally, the department is enhancing its technology with the implementation of car cameras and improved communication systems. The integration of Verizon and AT&T services is expected to bolster connectivity for officers, particularly during operations in remote areas like Trona.
The meeting concluded with positive feedback from city officials regarding the police department's efforts to engage with the community and improve safety measures. As Ridgecrest moves forward, these developments are anticipated to strengthen public safety and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
