Black and Veatch, a global leader in sustainable infrastructure, is set to transform its headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas, with plans for a new, state-of-the-art facility that reflects its status as a Fortune 500 company. During a recent meeting of the Finance, Administration, and Economic Development Committee, Kurt Peterson, alongside Megan Hoffman, the director of real estate and facilities for Black and Veatch, outlined the ambitious vision for the new headquarters.
The proposed development will not only house Black and Veatch's 2,200 local employees but also aims to create a vibrant mixed-use environment. The centerpiece will be a 600,000-square-foot office space designed with sustainability at its core. The project will include structured parking to minimize surface lots and enhance walkability, a key principle emphasized throughout the discussions.

This comprehensive approach aims to foster a community atmosphere that encourages pedestrian traffic and memorable public spaces.
Peterson highlighted the importance of retaining talent and attracting new employees, noting that the current headquarters does not adequately represent the company's global leadership. With interest from other jurisdictions in relocating, Black and Veatch is committed to remaining in Overland Park and enhancing its presence in the city.
The project is still in its conceptual phase, with further discussions and approvals anticipated as plans progress. The vision for this master development not only aims to elevate Black and Veatch's operational capabilities but also to contribute positively to the Overland Park community, making it a destination for both work and leisure.
