Maryland schools to develop telehealth policies by July under House Bill 522

This legislation requires all local school systems to implement a telehealth platform by July 1, 2024, allowing students to access healthcare services directly from school.

During the recent board meeting, the policy was presented for its first reading, with discussions highlighting the importance of parental consent and privacy protections under HIPAA. Board members expressed concerns about ensuring that students have a safe and private environment for telehealth visits, particularly regarding the physical spaces available in schools.
