Howard County Council approves $1.61B FY 26 budget prioritizing education and public safety

The Howard County Council convened on May 21, 2025, for the eighth day of a special legislative session focused on the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The meeting highlighted significant funding allocations aimed at education, public safety, and community services, reflecting the county's commitment to its residents.

Council members expressed strong support for the proposed budget, particularly the substantial investment in the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS). Despite the positive aspects of the budget, some council members voiced concerns about the sustainability of funding levels in the face of increasing demands and economic uncertainties.
