Cumberland High School celebrates state champion Unified Basketball Team

The Cumberland School Committee meeting on May 22, 2025, celebrated the achievements of the Cumberland High School Unified Basketball team, which recently claimed the state championship title. The event highlighted the importance of inclusion and community support in local sports programs.

Superintendent Dr. Thornton opened the meeting by introducing Marty Crowley, who praised the unified sports initiative that brings together student athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. Crowley emphasized the positive impact of these programs on social inclusion and teamwork, noting the dedication of coaches and volunteers who contribute to the success of the athletes.

During the meeting, Luke Homander, a member of the championship team, expressed gratitude on behalf of his teammates. In addition to the celebration of the basketball team, the committee also conducted routine business, including a motion to seal the minutes of an executive session, which passed unanimously. However, no votes were taken during that session.
